Modern Kitchen Remodel Before And After Transformation

Today I am sharing my modern kitchen remodel before and after transformation! This kitchen has been a labor of love. There has been so much thought and planning that went into this space. It is undeniably my favorite room in the house! It’s the main focal point once you are in our home. When we purchased this home a year ago, the kitchen was small, cabinets were falling off the hinges, and there was very little storage. The kitchen is the heart of the home and I couldn’t wait to make it more functional for cooking and entertaining. See the before and after transformation below.

MODERN KITCHEN REMODEL BEFORE AND AFTER UPDATES

A few design features that were top on my list for our kitchen remodel was a large island, slide out pantry, waterfall island countertop, and a large gas stove. I decided to remove a wall, rearrange appliances, and extend the kitchen. We removed the main wall that separated the living areas. We also removed a window, fortunately, our home is so bright and cheery it didn’t affect our natural light too much. Overall we kept this kitchen on a tight budget for what we were able to accomplish. Some things that helped cut costs were negotiating appliance prices, price shopping our quartz slabs, finding affordable options for non-custom cabinets, and price shopping our hardware.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR KITCHEN STAND OUT:

A few things that we decided to do with our kitchen to make our kitchen standout was bringing the cabinets to the ceiling to make the kitchen feel even larger, taking the backsplash to the ceiling, creating a custom stainless steel range hood, and upgrading our appliances, installed large scale dramatic pendant lights to tie the space together.

LIGHTING:

Lighting truly can make or break a space. My recommendation when picking out lighting is to go with larger scale pendant lights for your space. Lighting is such an important decision, it gives the mood in the space, and can make such a beautiful impact if done right. We went with the 12.5″ Lambert pendant lights from Hudson Valley Lighting. These lights are beyond stunning! I am so glad we found these. We chose the aged brass finish, it’s a gorgeous finish and exactly what I was looking for.

COUNTERTOPS:

We decided to go with Calcutta quartz. I LOVE marble countertops, they are my absolute favorite. I cook every day, love wine, and have my 3-year-old daughter help me cook at times, so marble was out of the question for now. We loved the idea of the white countertops with more dramatic veining similar to Calcutta marble. I wanted to go more modern with our kitchen remodel so I decided to do a waterfall edge countertop. We are so happy with the way it has turned out! I love the way it frames our island and our fabricator did an amazing job. We decided to have the island as large as one slab so there are not any seams except for the waterfall edge.

BACKSPLASH:

I decided to go with Blanco Carrera marble tiles for the backsplash. I wanted something that wouldn’t be too busy in the space. We too the backsplash up to the ceiling and it makes such a difference.

TEXTILES:

I recently added valance above the window where our sink is. It adds some blush tone to the kitchen and accentuates the Turkish pastel kitchen runner.

HARDWARE:

We decided to go with brass hardware and faucet. We have a lot of stainless in the kitchen with the appliances and range hood so I decided to mix it up and add champagne brass hardware.

Overall, we are so happy with the space and the changes we have made in this space to put our personal touch on it. I hope you enjoyed my modern kitchen remodel before and after transformation!
